"The last wish of any
parent who falls on the battlefield is not the medal or a parade, it is;"
'please take care of my children' " Dan O'Dowd
..........................................................................................................................
Like most people our recent
Mideast conflict touched me deeply. I watched the horrors of the war in Iraq
unfold daily, on my television and computer. The minute by minute stories of
unspeakable danger at every turn made this truly a stressful period.
Then all of a sudden a statue
fell and the fighting was over. What didn't end was the pain of the children
of fallen US soldiers. While 130 deaths is low by any war's standards, over
150 children were left without a Mother or a Father. These children indeed paid
the highest price of any of us and should not be left with the table scraps
that the government will provide.
In a period when American
CEO's are most suspect, one such chief steps up in the biggest way. Mr. David
O'Dowd/CEO/Green Hills software created The Last Wish Foundation (www.lastwishfoundation.org)
with a 100K personal donation. He is making sure that these special children,
who will have it tough enough in life without a parent, will at least have the
resources to grow and become anything they desire.
I am asking my radio community,
who step up to the plate on issues like this better than ANY media on a daily
basis, to dig deep for this worthy cause.
This Memorial Day, when
you're enjoying life with your family, we need to think about the parents of
these kids who help make our lifestyle possible. We can't make the children
feel better today, but time and sufficient money for their future needs can
be the difference in their lives.
