88.5......YOUR
NEW DIAL POSITION!
Have you pulled up to a traffic light lately only to see
an Ipod holder on a dashboard tuned to 88.5? You see, 88.5
(the frequency that triggers an Ipod instead of the car
radio) must be your new frequency because people want it
'time shifted' and 'on-demand'. They are filling their portable
players with more than just music and radio needs to join
the party by doing what it does best, DELIVER CONTENT!
If you don't know about the phenomena known as 'Podcasting',
you need to 'Google' it RIGHT NOW! Your listeners, in startling
numbers, are listening (and in some instances paying for
per download) to targeted, niched, homemade broadcasts known
as 'podcasts'. They are currently non commercial at this
stage of the curve but have HUGE untapped commercial applications
for radio. At Loyal Ears, when we see a phenomena like Ipods
and Podcasting, we look squarely for the opportunity. So
we've created a turnkey, low cost app that will allow a
radio station to be the best friend an Ipod could have.
At click of a mouse, you can have channels of uninterrupted
content via podcasts created IN or OUT of a station. Entertainment,
Sports, and News stations all have enormous opportunities
to brand and create podcasts that a loyal and hyper targeted
audience will pay for by download, or will want free such
as an archived morning show. In a world where 'Content is
King', radio must reestablish itself as 'King of Content'.
What can your station podcast? How BIG is your vision? If
podcasting is truly an audio look at someone's inner sanctum,
radio has much to offer for it's dominate local access to
people, places and things.
Dan Mason recently said, "Coping with on-demand requirements
may mean that we have to become more like 1960's programmers,
who took a lot of chances". We think it's an on demand
world and nobody is better suited to fill that world with
a daily/weekly flow of content than radio. In many ways,
this tool can be terrestrial radio's version of satellite
radio.
Radio's future is arriving at an alarming rate. An Ipod
is going to be a common addition to dashboard. Get used
to it! What you can do about it is to become proactive and
make sure that the next time you pull up to that traffic
light, 88.5 can mean they're tuned into YOU!.
